Hurried steps on the serpentine road
With one hand, I am holding the flickering lamp
Given to me by my mother
And with the other, I am clutching
The baby close to my heart.
The moon is nowhere to be seen..
The road is barely visible in the pitch darkness….
Jackals howl, crickets scream….
My face sprinkled with droplets of rain
Falling from above…
As we pass through the bamboo grove
A few pairs of ghoulish, bloodshot eyes
Move about
Aimlessly in the swamp…….
A stream of blood bursts through my heart
And climbs up to my eyes.
